The House That Evelyne Built: Making A Difference in D.R. Congo
Since 2021, RET has worked with communities in the eastern regions of Democratic Republic of Congo to improve food security and promote peace in a conflict-torn area. In the village of Katoni, in the Ituri province, Evelyne spoke to us about how this work has impacted her life. Together with local NGOs like ACPEJ, FDAPID, and PAP-RDC, we’re working to empower smallholder farmers in Ituri and North Kivu – to the south – by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to achieve lasting food security. How We're Improving Food Security in Mali
In the Ségou region in Mali, RET Germany has been working to improve livelihoods and food security through training in climate-adaptive agriculture and handicrafts, as well as promoting peaceful relations and economic interdependence among communities. In this video, we spotlight our work with local NGO ALPHALOG through our agriculture training programs. These initiatives are blending traditional techniques with modern ones and transforming communities in the process. This project, "Improved Livelihoods and Food Security through Training in Climate-Adaptive Agriculture, Handicrafts, and Peaceful Relations and Economic Interdependence among Communities", began implementation in December 2022, will continue through December 2025 with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and is implemented by RET Germany in partnership with ALPHALOG and REFOR. How Pilots Are Distributing Food and Supplies to South Africa's Most in Need
South Africa's Covid Flight: As 8 million residents sit in lockdown, ripples from the pandemic are hitting South Africa’s supply chain. Helicopter pilots are volunteering to distribute food and supplies to those most in need. Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures "We are sitting in a very dangerous corner where we have the threat of the pandemic catching up with the secondary knock-on effect of the collapse of the economy", says Felix Gosher, director of operations for Covid Flight. He has diverted his network of pilots from giving underprivileged children their first flight experience, to flying goods to the poorest communities. "Because of lockdown the children are not going to school anymore, so we are giving them their food parcels at home", says one community organiser, who relies on the pilots to deliver food to her rural community. "There is a need for a transport network that is organized and a crew that is available to deliver on time", says Gosher, as millions struggle with no income and limited access to shops.
